Ma. Jani et al., An experimental comparison between electrode shapes for NOx treatment using a dielectric barrier discharge, J PHYS D, 33(23), 2000, pp. 3078-3082
An exhaust gas treatment using dielectric barrier discharges has been devel
oped in order to increase the energy efficiency of NO removal. The effect o
f electrode shape on NO removal in a barrier discharge plasma was investiga
ted experimentally. The electrode shapes (multi-point-to-plane and plane-to
-plane) were compared to provide information on the performance of the gas
treatment. The experimental result shows that the multi-point-to-plane elec
trode is more effective than the plane-to-plane one at low energy and low o
perating voltage. With a flow rate of 51 min(-1),the power requirement to r
emove 200 ppm NO is 24 W using the multi-point-to-plane electrodes, while i
t is 177 W using the plane-to-plane electrode. The average power requiremen
t for NO, removal can be reduced to similar to 20% by using multi-point-to-
plane electrodes.
