Several strains of rock inhabiting fungi repeatedly isolated from ston
e monuments in the Sanctuary of Delos and from the monuments of the Cr
imea were investigated using field and laboratory morphology analysis
as well as cultural and molecular (Amplified rDNA Restriction Analysis
) methods. Based on these all isolates were tentatively grouped into a
separate cluster of dematiaceous fungi. A comparison with the related
genera Coniosporium and Monodictys was carried out in order to verify
the novelty of the cluster.
