Aminopeptidase- and amidase-based methods for the production of enanti
omerically pure amino acids, intermediates for pharmaceuticals and agr
ochemicals, are discussed. Furthermore, enzymatic syntheses of the dip
eptide sweetener aspartame and semisynthetic antibiotics (such as ampi
cillin, amoxicillin, cephalexin, and cefadroxil) are highlighted.
