Abstract
Pellets of YBa2Cu3O7-delta doped with a mixture of ceria (0.5 wt %) and sil ver (5 and 10 wt %) were textured using the top-seeding melt-texturing proc ess with a maximum temperature of 1000 degreesC. 430 degreesC was found to be an optimum annealing temperature for textured silver doped YBCO and Bean critical current densities of 55 kA/cm(2) were measured under self field. Both the fracture toughness and the resistance to thermal shock have been i mproved by the addition of silver.
