Abstract
This paper deals with the characteristic analysis of the flux damper with r espect to the load in a high-Tc superconducting (HTS) synchronous motor. To find out the shielding performance and the change of the eddy-currents on the fluxdamper, the experimentally measured currents of the armature and th e field windings are used as input parameters in solving the three-dimensio nal (3D) magnetic field distribution in a HTS synchronous motor with Finite -Element Method (FEM). The simulation results show that the transient state lasts for about two seconds and the flux damper shields the time varying f ield up to ten percent.
