Abstract
Local structural evidence is found supporting the presence of charge inhomo geneities in the CuO2 planes of underdoped La2-xSrxCuO4, using high-resolut ion PDF analysis of neutron powder diffraction data. Broadening of the in-p lane Cu-O bond distribution as a function of doping up to optimal doping is observed. Thereafter the peak abruptly sharpens. The result suggests a cro ssover from a charge inhomogeneous state below optimal doping to a homogene ous charge state above optimal doping.
