Fe-57 Mossbauer spectra of RNiBC (R=Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er) doped with 0.5
at % 57Fe show a main quadrupole doublet \DeltaE(Q)\ which is R dependent.
The values of \DeltaE(Q)\ linearly depend on the parameter (c'/a), with c'
being the distance of R-C layers between which the Ni-2-B-2 layer is sandwi
ched and a being the lattice parameter in the basal plane. A correlation be
tween T-c and (c'/a) is also observed indicating that this structural param
eter is important for the occurrence of superconductivity in this class of
compounds.
