By means of a cumulant expansion method, we investigate the incommensurate
phase in the low doping region of the two dimensional single-band Hubbard m
odel. We calculate the spin magnetic susceptibility as a function of doping
and analyze the effect of a Van Hove singularity on a commensurate-incomme
nsurate transition. A comparison with the experimental results of LSCO is d
iscussed.
