Abstract
BACKGROUND: Rare cases of venous thrombosis associated with celiac disease have been reported. CASE REPORT: We report a case of 40-year-old woman with splenic infarction and splenic venous thrombosis associated with celiac disease. This patient was homozygous for the C677T mutation of the methyltetrahydrofolate reducta se (MTHFR) gene and had moderately elevated homocysteinemia. DISCUSSION: We discuss the link between celiac disease and thrombosis as we ll as the interest and appropriate duration of anticoagulation and hypothes ize a mechanism of thrombotic disease in this setting with hyper-homocysein emia.
