Psychologists have discovered new training and practice opportunities by co
llaborating with family physicians. This article describes a collaborative
practicum experience in which predoctoral psychology students teamed with f
amily medicine residents to provide care for family medicine outpatients. P
sychology students improved their clinical skills and reported learning val
uable collaborative skills. Family medicine residents increased their postp
racticum mental health diagnoses and their mental health referrals and chan
ged their attitudes about providing mental health care.
