The electromotive force technique in conjunction with a fluoride electrolyt
e was used to determine the region homogeneity barium cuprate with respect
to copper and oxygen. A new procedure was developed for measuring the conte
nt of carbonate ions in complex oxocarbonate compounds. It was found that b
arium cuprate at equilibrium with CuO at 1120 K, p(O-2) = 1 bar, and p(CO2)
= 10(-4)-10(-2.5) bar has a BaCu1.15O2.175(CO2)(0.141) composition.
