B. Roche et J. Mattei, THE ANIMAL SPECIES INTRODUCED INTO THE CO RSICAN FRESH-WATERS, Bulletin francais de la peche et de la pisciculture, (344-45), 1997, pp. 233-239
Seventeen new animal species, among which fifteen fish species, were i
ntroduced into the island within less than one hundred years. These sp
ecies adapted to various aquatic environments, thus greatly contributi
ng to the biodiversity of the fauna of the island, and especially to t
he fish populations in natural and artificial lakes. We found that the
introduction of the new fish species also propagated an Anguillicola
disease in eels. Furthermore, recent studies on wild brown trout popul
ations revealed a genetic impact of the introductions.
