Abstract
We conducted prospective, randomized analytical and observational trials to assess reconstitution times of two lyophilized crotaline snake antivenoms, Antivenin (Crotalidae) Polyvalent [Wyeth-Ayerst] (ACP) and affinity-purifi ed, mixed monospecific crotalid antivenom ovine Fab (CroTAb(R)) (Fab antive nom). The analytical experiment indicated Fab antivenom and ACP reached the ir maximum protein concentration at 25 and 45 min, respectively. In the obs ervational experiment, Fab antivenom (median 40 min) had a shorter reconsti tution time than ACP (>90 min, p < 0.008). (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. A ll rights reserved.
