F. Gramegna et al., A TELESCOPE WITH MICROSTRIP GAS-CHAMBERS FOR THE DETECTION OF CHARGEDPRODUCTS IN HEAVY-ION REACTIONS, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 389(3), 1997, pp. 474-478
Prototypes of a Delta E-E telescope, designed to detect and identify w
ith low-energy threshold both light charged particles and heavy fragme
nts, are described. They are based on a gas drift chamber which convey
s primary ionization electrons on gas microstrip devices where multipl
ication occurs and the energy loss signals are generated. Silicon dete
ctors or CsI(Tl) crystals operate as residual energy detectors. The pr
ototypes were tested both with a source and heavy ion beams. Performan
ces, mainly related to energy resolution, charge identification and an
gle resolution, are reported.
