A theoretical model for bubble formation and weeping has been developed. Po
tential flow theory is used to describe bubble formation at the orifice. Th
e influence of detached, rising bubbles on liquid pressure at the orifice i
s predicted by Oseen's modification to potential flow. Model predictions of
bubble volumes, weeping flow rates and weep points agree well with experim
ental results. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
