The reduction of hydration heat and the prediction of temperature history i
n massive concrete structures have been very important problems. In this st
udy, a three-dimensional finite element program for thermal analysis of hyd
ration heat in concrete structures with pipe cooling system was developed.
A line element was adopted for modeling of pipe. Internal flow theory was a
pplied for calculating the temperature variation of cooling water. The pred
icted results were compared with the measured data from the spread concrete
footing of the Seo-Hae Bridge in Korea. The predicted results showed good
agreements with the site measured data. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Scie
