Abstract
The complete analysis of the H-1 NMR spectrum of beta-pinene, (1S)-(-) -6,6-dimethyl-2- methylenebicyclo[3.1.1]heptane, which is of the ABCDE PGHIJX(3)Y(3) type, is reported and earlier results are corrected. The vicinal coupling constants, (3)J(H,H), are compared with the theoreti cal values calculated by using the Altona and co-workers' equations fo r the structure derived by molecular modelling. The results were appli ed to the conformational analysis of beta-pinene. (C) 1997 by John Wil ey & Sons, Ltd.
