The helminth fauna of the genet (Genetta genetta Linnaeus, 1758) was studie
d in detail from 299 individuals coming from 85 localities of the Iberian P
eninsula. Most of the genet's helminth species are stenoxenous (show a narr
ow host specificity) and have probably been introduced to the Iberian Penin
sula together with their host in historical times. The composition of these
species does not practically differ from the genet's helminths in the orig
inal North African area. Several other helminth species of a low specificit
y are shared at genet and other Iberian carnivores. Factors of the genet's
ethology, chorology, and diet affecting the structure and dynamics of the h
elminthic community were discussed.
