Abstract
Twelve Pseudomonas aeruginosa cystic fibrosis isolates that are not able to exert a type III secretion system (TTSS)-dependent cytotoxicity towards ph agocytes have been further studied. The strains, although possessing TTSS g enes and exsA, which encodes a positive regulator of the TTSS regulon, show ed no transcriptional activation of the exsCBA regulatory operon. The expre ssion of exsA in trans restored the in vitro secretion of TTSS proteins and ex vivo cytotoxicity.
