Abstract
Recrystallization of BaTiO3 films deposited electrophoretically on Pt plates was investigated under the irradiation of a CO2-laser beam. Las er irradiation of the films caused significant growth of platelike cry stals and strip grains on the surface. Considerable recrystallization occurred in a wide temperature gradient region around the las er-irrad iated portions. The laser scanning process is suited for the growth of large grains with preferred orientation. The recrystallized phase of film was the tetragonal one of BaTiO3. Remanent polarization of 4.8 mu C/cm(2) and coercive field of 3.2 kV/cm were obtained in the film wit h 4 ym thickness.
