Abstract
A large-signal dynamic model of electro-absorption modulator integrated (EA MI) distributed feedback (DFB) lasers are proposed. The time-dependent tran sfer matrix method is used. Large signal chirp and the optical pulse shape depending on the driving voltage, optical feedback, electrical coupling, gr ating phase at the end of the las:er section, and length of the waveguide r egion are studied. Because we separately calculate the laser chirp and the modulator chirp to obtain accurate estimates, our model can accurately pred ict the laser and modulator chirp. The model can fit very well the large si gnal chirp measured for 10-Gbps EAMI-DFB lasers.
