Ec. Passamani et E. Baggiosaitovitch, SOLUBILITY STUDY OF SN AND CR FILMS PREPARED BY VAPOR CONDENSATION, Journal of alloys and compounds, 255(1-2), 1997, pp. 155-160
Since Sn/Cr is considered to be an immiscible system we have investiga
ted the solubility of thin films of SnxCr1-x alloys, under non-equilib
rium conditions, provided from fast quenching in the 0.20 less than or
equal to x less than or equal to 0.95 concentration range. The sample
s were analyzed by X-ray Sn-119 Mossbauer spectroscopy at 4.2 and 300
K. The X-ray diffractograms show that the films are disordered. The Mo
ssbauer spectra display a quadrupole splitting distribution (QSD) vary
ing with composition. Moreover, for films with x > 0.70 a single absor
ption line corresponding to P-Sn is superimposed to the QSD. We conclu
ded that, even in our conditions, SnxCr1-x series shows the features o
f a multiphase system: Sn3Cr2 intermetallic compound, Sn diluted in th
e Cr matrix and a Sn/Cr solid solution rich in Sn.
