A simple and cheaper modification reaction of dextran with 2,4-dichlorophen
oxyacetic chloride using some bases as catalysts was studied. The structure
of the resulting polymers was determined by means of infrared, H-1 and C-1
3 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The hydrolysis in the heterogene
ous phase showed that the release of the active compound is dependent on th
e hydrophilic character of the modified dextran polymers, the temperature a
nd the pH value of the medium.
