Abstract
New aromatic-containing ionene polymers having N.N-diphenyl pendent groups were synthesized for the first time by solution polycondensation of N,N,N'N '-tetraphenyl-m-xylylenediamine with aliphatic dihalides like p-xylylene di bromide in acetonitrile at 200 degreesC under a high pressure of 500 MPa. T he inherent viscosity values of the polymers were rather low. These N,N-dip henyl-pendent aromatic ionene polymers were soluble in polar solvents such as DMF and m-cresol but not in water, and showed normal polyelectrolyte beh avior in ethanol solutions.
