Abstract
We report breech pressure measurements during the firing of an air cannon. We find that the pressure record is a useful and convenient diagnostic of t he penetrator projectile motion during launch-supplementing or replacing be am- or wire-breaking speedometers and on-board accelerometers. With little effort, launch speed can be measured with a 2 sigma error of 1.75 m s(-1) o r better than 5%.
