Abstract
In this letter we report a transmission electron microscopy investigat ion of the occurrence of different orientation states in La1-xPbxMnO3 and demonstrate its correlation with the rhombohedral distortion of th is compound. We show that the observed twinned microstructure is consi stent with that expected from group-subgroup relations between the pro totype and the room-temperature phase. Domain wall orientations are de rived from ferroelastic theory. The relation between the observed dist ortion and structural parameters is discussed.
