Abstract
Besides several other parameters, residual stresses exert substantial influ ence on material behaviour. Measurements of residual stresses are rather ex pensive to carry out and are also affected by many error sources. For these reasons, of particular interest is the completion of these measurements by simulations and, maybe later, by substitution. This article explains in sh ort the different residual stress measuring methods with their advantages a nd disadvantages. Moreover, the measuring results or a residual stress test , taken at a welded plate, will be compared to the results of FEM residual stress analysis.
