The phenomenal technological advances achieved in technologies associated w
ith the internet has tranformed information systems into service-centric st
ructures. The paper discusses the role of the internet in clinical practice
, and in particular the use of the internet in the diagnosis and management
of a class of paediatric metabolic disorders. In the light of the results
obtained in the above study, and recognising the benefits of deploying the
object-oriented middleware, architecture of a clinical information system i
s proposed for use by a set of stakeholders in the evidence-based healthcar
e framework.
