Ry. Wu et al., A web-based evaluation system for boundary detection algorithms on medicalimages, NEW ASPECTS OF HIGH TECHNOLOLGY IN MEDICINE, 2000, pp. 427-433
Computerized boundary detection algorithms on medical images usually should
be evaluated against multiple expert observers' hand-outlined boundaries,
which often leads to a tedious and time-consuming data collection. In this
paper, we described a web-based system to solve this problem by getting the
collection done via the Internet. The registered expert observers can logi
n to the server from any places at any time, outline the medical images in
a standard image database with the help of computerized outlining tools, th
en submit the outlines via the Internet. An evaluation program follows up t
o do the actual statistical evaluation using the collected experts' outline
s. The system has been tested by deploying a sample application, in which t
wo boundary detection algorithms are successfully evaluated against 5 exper
t observers on 20 transrectal ultrasound images of the prostate.
