Data from three years of providing telemedicine consults within a universit
y-based telemedicine program were evaluated to identify trends and points o
f significant fluctuations in service provision. There has been a significa
nt linear increase in the number of teleconsults provided since the program
's inception. Case volume was most variable when new sites were being added
to the telemedicine network. Consults have been provided in 53 sub-special
ties. Although certain sub-specialties have been used more often than other
s (i.e., dermatology and psychiatry) teleconsults were provided on average
in 12 different sub-specialties each month. Teleconsult volume has fluctuat
ed on a monthly basis, but overall it has increased steadily over time.
