Abstract
Ultrasound methods get more importance in phlebology. We present the possib ilities of various ultrasound techniques in the diagnosis of venous disease s. Continuous wave Doppler sonography is helpful in detecting incompetence of the long and short saphenous veins and perforator incompetence. It can p roduce wrong results because the veins can not be identified morphologicall y. Compression sonography con be used for detection of deep vein thrombosis . It can be performed very easily and is suited for the investigation of th e deep calf and muscle veins. Color duplex sonography gives accurate assess ment in patients with thrombosis, postthrombotic syndrome, varicosis or phl ebitis. Power doppler can be used for controlling the free venous flow in a ddition to color duplex sonography.
