M. Schutzwohl et R. Olbrich, Patients' assessments of indoor psychiatric ergotherapy determinants of reported patient satisfaction, PSYCHIAT PR, 27(8), 2000, pp. 401-405
Objective: The present study, which falls back on data collected within an
extensive evaluation of indoor psychiatric ergotherapy, aims at the investi
gation of the interaction between patients' satisfaction and patients' char
acteristics, duration of treatment, and patients' assessments of specific s
ingle treatment aspects. Methods: Fifty-eight inpatients assigned to three
ergotherapeutic treatment programs were included into study. Assessments in
cluded - among others - a German version of the Client Satisfaction Questio
nnaire as well as a 74-items questionnaire on specific treatment aspects, s
uch as perceived support, perceived practical orientation, and perceived pe
rsonal problem orientation. Results: As expected, a high level of satisfact
ion with treatment was reported. Patients' satisfaction is correlated with
some variables under study, such as patients' subjective well-being and pat
ients' assessments of psychosocial and professional treat-ment aspects. Con
clusions: Findings indicate that - for the purpose of high patient satisfac
tion - ergotherapeutic treatment programs should distinguish themselves by
supportive therapists, practical orientation, and personal problem orientat
ion.
