Abstract
Many nations see bank secrecy as a hallmark of freedom and resist any attem pt to undermine the confidentiality of business transactions mandated by th eir laws in order to help the legal authorities of the United States enforc e the laws. This article examines the United States' efforts to erode this privacy and the reaction of privacy proponents to this crusade.
