Abstract
The significance of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) was examined in 58 Chines e breast cancer patients. The method of technetium-99m sulfur colloid injec tion and the intraoperative gamma probe was found to be very useful for ide ntifying the SLN. The positive predictive value was 64.5%, and the negative predictive value was 93.2%. Findings suggest that lymph node dissection is not necessary in breast cancer patients with a negative SLN.
