Abstract
5,5'-Bicalix[4]arene 1, a ditopic host possessing two divergent cavities, c rystallizes from CH2Cl2 and p-xylene to give an iterative assembly of a thr ee-component zigzag array. This array is formed by CH-pi inclusion of a lin ear CH2Cl2.p-xylene connector within the facing cavities of two molecules o f 1. Each zigzag array is perpendicularly interconnected to the lateral one through hydrophilic interactions of calixarene-OH groups. (C) 2000 Elsevie r Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
