When selecting the correct treatment for a patient with anterior esthetic p
roblems, the dentist must choose between direct and indirect procedures. Wi
th situations allowing conservative treatment, direct resin restoration sho
uld be given strong consideration. Advances in materials and techniques tha
t can positively affect this choice include prerestorative bleaching proced
ures, new bonding agents, and new highly esthetic direct resin systems. A p
rocedure is described to maximize esthetics and minimize finishing time dur
ing direct resin placement.
