We describe a scanning near-field microwave microscope which uses a loop pr
obe to measure local magnetic properties of metallic samples on a length sc
ale of 200 mum. We demonstrate imaging at 6 GHz through spatiallyresolved f
erromagnetic resonance experiments on a single crystal of the colossal magn
eto-resistive material La0.8Sr0.2MnO3. We find the experimental results are
qualitatively and quantitatively well described by a simple model of the s
ystem. (C) 2000 American Institute of Physics. [S0003- 6951(00)03951-6].
