Incidences of foot rot as well as varietal reactions to the diease at early
flowering and peak fruiting stages of ten varieties of brinjal were record
ed during Kharif-I to Kharif-II (1996) seasons under field conditions. Plan
ts at the two growth stages were inoculated by the pathogen (Srlerotium rol
fsii Sacc.) grown on moist oats. All the varieties were infected with high
per cent infection (87-100%) at early flowering stage than per cent plant i
nfected within the range of (60-100%) at peak fruiting stage. Varieties var
ied in per cent mortality at both stages. Among the varieties Mirsarai-1 wa
s resistant, Mirsarai-2 moderately susceptible and all other varieties were
susceptible at early flowering stage. At peak fruiting stage, vars. Dohaza
ri and Singnath were resistant, Khotkhotia was tolerant. Uttara. Mirsarai-1
and Mirsarai-2 were moderately susceptible. The other four varieties were
found susceptible.
