Abstract
Phytoplankton and physico-chemical conditions of the river Padma in Rajshah i have been studied. 26 genera of 5 classes of phytoplankton were recorded and 26 physico-chemical parameters were measured. The water of Padma was al ways alkaline in nature. Recorded BOD5, COD, TDS, total hardness, conductiv ity and chloride values indicate that this river water has crossed the dome stic water quality standard prescribed by WHO (1988). Diatom abundance by 9 0% also coincided with high silicate content of the river water.
