Abstract
High resolution transmission electron microscopy image of Sigma =3 and Sigm a =9 tilt about <011> axis (first and second order twin) boundaries was obs erved in a specimen cleaved from a melt grown CdTe bulk crystal. Part of th e first order twin boundaries lie in ((2) over bar1 (1) over bar)-((2) over bar(1) over bar1) and ((1) over bar(1) over bar1)-((1) over bar1 (1) over bar) planes. The dislocation cores were found in the boundary plane of a Si gma =3 tilt boundary lying in ((1) over bar(1) over bar1)-((1) over bar1 (1 ) over bar) planes. The images of the observed boundaries were simulated us ing the software package "MSLICE" based on the multislice method. It is con cluded, according to these findings, that part of the twins are due to ther mal stress.
