A. Rabbani et Em. Galimov, Geochemical identification of oil source formations in southeastern Iran (Persian Gulf), GEOCHEM INT, 38(12), 2000, pp. 1198-1206
The isotope characteristics of corresponding fractions of an organic substa
nce and oils were compared in order to identify oil source rocks in the sou
theastern Iranian Zagros. The genetic unity of oil in the Jahrom and Sarvak
formations was distinguished. The deeply buried sediments of the Gahkum Fo
rmation of the Ordovician-Silurian age are the most probable oil source for
these formations. The Kazhdomi and Pabdeh formations, which are oil source
rocks of the greatest fields of the western Zagros, were not involved in o
il generation in the eastern Zagros.
