Abstract
Some comments are offered on the history of Saussures reception and on the relation between the text of the Cours de linguistique generale and (a) the manuscript material on which it is based, and (b) Saussures own reflection s, in as far as they are ascertainable. The discussion leads up to a review of Simon Bouquets Introduction a la lecture de Saussure (Paris, 1997).
