Abstract
A numerical investigation was conducted to analyze the unsteady flow-field and heat-transfer characteristics for a tandem pair of square cylinders in a laminar channel flow. The drag, lift, and heat transfer coefficients from the downstream heated cylinder due to inline and offset eddy-promoting cyl inders were studied. The results show that the drag coefficient and cylinde r Nusselt number decrease as the heated cylinder approaches the wall. The h ighest Strouhal number value is observed in the channel-centered, inline-ed dy configuration. Complex periodic vortex shedding develops when the eddy p romoter is offset from the primary cylinder. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
