Abstract
The reduced time evolution operator for the spin-boson model with a cu bic bath spectrum is expanded in terms of the spin-phonon coupling par ameter. The contributions of first and second order to the damping rat e are calculated explicitly. The second-order term constitutes a novel result and yields a rigorous criterion for the validity of various pr evious theories.
