Abstract
Chemical migrations during UV writing of Bragg gratings on germanium doped silica optical fibre preform are seen when the fluence is large enough. The UV irradiated fringes are depleted in germanium but rich in oxygen, wherea s the non-irradiated fringes are reduced and enriched in silicon. These che mical modifications lead to an additional refractive index modulation which is out of phase with the densification grating.
