Abstract
Surgical repair of a fractured tibiotarsus in a scarlet macaw (Ara mac ao) is described. The forces imposed on the fracture site are discusse d and the unique features of avian bone emphasised. Advantages of exte rnal skeletal fixation and specific details of the frame construction are highlighted.
