D. Lavie et A. Fiegenbaum, The strategic reaction of domestic Finns to foreign MNC dominance: the Israeli experience, LONG RANG P, 33(5), 2000, pp. 651-672
With the promise of regional peace brought about by political developments
in the Middle East in the 1990s, Israeli firms found themselves in a radica
lly changing environment, with multinational corporations (MNCs) making mas
sive inroads into their long-standing domestic monopolies. Firstly, this ar
ticle demonstrates how foreign MNC positioning has dominated that of their
domestic counterparts. Secondly, we describe how this strategic dominance h
as triggered domestic firms into rethinking their strategies, and turned th
em into global players. The Israeli experience offers lessons for both fore
ign and domestic firms in how to develop economies better prepared for a wi
n-win situation. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
