A solution of Yb-169 was absolutely standardized by the 4 pi beta (PC)-gamm
a [NaI(Tl)] coincidence counting method and the result has been used to obt
ain direct measurements of gamma-ray emission probabilities with a coaxial
HPGe detector. Standard sources covering the energy range from 21 to 1408 k
eV were employed to obtain the efficiency-energy curve of the germanium det
ector. The efficiencies obtained by interpolating this curve were used to d
etermine the emission probabilities of gamma -rays following the decay of Y
b-169. The half-life of Yb-169 was also measured with a 4 pi-gamma ionizati
on chamber. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
