Abstract
Based on analyses of previous experimental methods and results, the cross s ections of the W-186(n, gamma)W-187 reaction were measured in the neutron e nergy range from 0.50 to 1.50 MeV by the activation technique. Neutrons wer e produced through the T(p,n)He-3 reaction, and the cross sections of the A u-197(n, gamma)Au-198 reaction were used to determine the absolute neutron flux. Experimental results agreed with the previous time-of-flight measurem ents but did not agree with the previous activation measurements. Without t he tungsten resonance absorption foils, the measured cross sections of the W-186(n, gamma)W-187 reaction by the activation method were shown to be lar ger than the corrected ones because of the interference of the low-energy n eutrons.
