f equine myopathies is given. The prevalence and incidence of myopathies di
ffers significantly among breeds, their anticipated use and geographic loca
tion. localized muscle disorders may be caused by infection, trauma and loc
al circulatory problems (e.g. aortic-iliac thrombosis). Systemic muscle dis
orders are exertional rhabdomyolysis, metabolic storage myopathy, exhaustio
n myopathy, atypical myoglobinuria in grazing horses, myalgia, hyperkalemic
periodic paralysis, postanesthetic myopathy, nutritional myopathies and my
otonia.
